Primary tabs

On Thursday, March 20 at 2PM in the Mt. Ashland Room, local attorney’s, Michael Mayerle an Melisa Button, will speak on issues everyone should be thinking about as they age – estate planning and other tools to allow one’s wishes to be followed. Specifically, they will touch on the various options for the transfer of assets (wills, trusts, survivorship designations, and intestate), the process in which these assets are transferred (i.e., the mechanics), and what happens when an individual passes without these vehicles in place. Furthermore, they will discuss the importance of planning for the possibility that one may become incapacitated. They will discuss the importance of having an Advance Directive for Health Care and issues one needs to consider before executing a Durable Power of Attorney (which everyone should do). Lastly, they will discuss Guardians, Conservatorships, and Financial Elder Abuse. Professional Geriatric Care Manager Ellen D. Waldman of Senior Options, LLC will also be present to discuss how to register a POLST (Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment).
